Denver Film is proud to announce a summer lineup that promises to captivate audiences of all ages and tastes. From adrenaline-pumping spectacles and cult classics at Film on The Rocks to free outdoor screenings of animated favorites, the queer spotlight festival CinemaQ, and curated series like Sci-Fi Film Series with the Museum of Nature and Science and Reel-to-Reel with History Colorado there’s something for everyone in this season’s cinematic offerings.
Kicking off summer, Denver Film brings back beloved Film on The Rocks with its first show of the season on June 10 with an action classic: THE MATRIX setting the stage for an unforgettable season. Followed by the beloved family favorite SHREK on June 24, the timeless classic THE WIZARD OF OZ on July 8, the irreverently hilarious DEADPOOL on July 15, and concluding on August 19 with the action-packed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD just as FURIOSA hits theaters. Tickets are now on sale at denverfilm.org/programs/film-on-the-rocks/.
June also brings the start of our beloved free series in partnership with Denver Arts and Venues: Sunset Cinema, setting up the stage with spectacular summer sunsets screening outdoor gems. The films that embody the best of this year’s theme will be announced on May 21st – when free ticket RSVP begins as well – but save the dates of June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6, and August 20 for five nights of film fun underneath the stars in the DCPA’s Sculpture Garden.
Starting a couple of new series and partnerships this year, Denver Film is partnering with Levitt Pavilion and the Biennial to bring a free outdoor film series “Film on The Hill” or “Cine en La Colina;” June 6 with COCO and August 15 with SANTO VS DR. DEATH. And a new series in partnership with the MCA of Denver screening double features and themed activities throughout the summer at the Holiday Theater, called Summer Cinema Sundays: starting with INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE and FIELD OF DREAMS for father’s day on June 16, followed by a double feature of the FAST & FURIOUS series on July 14, and finishing the series on August 4 with a screening of TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, JULIE NEWMAR, and SOME LIKE IT HOT.
Denver Film is also proud to announce the return of one of the most exciting summer spotlight festivals in the city: CinemaQ, celebrating its 16th anniversary showcasing the best in queer cinema in a 4-day extravaganza from August 8 to August 11. Before the lineup is revealed and tickets go on sale on June 24 on denverfilm.org, attendees at Denver Pride the weekend prior will get the chance to see the lineup before anyone else and enter a giveaway to win a couple of All-Access Passes. All-Access Passes will be available on May 8 at 10:00 am on denverfilm.org.
Audiences will explore the outer reaches of the universe with Denver Film’s Sci-fi Series, taking place on July 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, and August 7th. With the lineup yet to be announced, expect a journey into the unknown with groundbreaking science fiction on the screen and with fascinating talks that will leave you questioning the very fabric of reality. Passes will be on sale on May 23 on denverfilm.org.
Every Tuesday in August, buckle up for a rollercoaster ride of cinematic thrills with Reel-to-Reel. Featuring a lineup that includes the chilling horror of “The Shining,” the mesmerizing illusion of “The Prestige,” the powerful drama of “BlacKkKlansman,” and the heartfelt comedy of “Shower,” prepare to be dazzled by some of cinema’s finest offerings.
As summer comes to an end, Denver Film takes over Lakeside Amusement Park on August 22nd promising another electrifying party with Summer Scream. A fundraising event that’s produced for audiences to enter into their inner-child’s fantasy, the park will close its doors to the general public letting Denver Film ticket holders enjoy endless rides, free unlimited drinks and immerse themselves in a cinematic world. Tickets at the lowest rate of $50 go on sale May 6th for Denver Film members only, with 4-packs and early-bird tickets available for purchase starting May 20 until June 9, when individual tickets increase.
