DENVER – July 15, 2024 – Denver Film announced today that it will host its annual Summer Scream fundraiser, Aug. 22 from 6 – 11 p.m. at the historic Lakeside Amusement Park, 4601 Sheridan Blvd. Individual tickets for the age 21-plus, end-of-summer event, are $65 Denver Film Member / $75 non-member and are available at denverfilm.org.

In addition to unlimited rides and nightlong open bars, Summer Scream will celebrate its 12th anniversary with Winona Ryder-themed thrills to showcase her career in a way “never seen before,” according to Chris Getzan and Andrew Novick, who once again served as the immersive creators for the annual fundraising event.

“We’ll have one-of-a-kind Winona Ryder cosplay, featuring the talents of the Colorado Academy of Cosplay, as well as Winona art, Winona Ryder trivia and games, and a Winona-themed scavenger hunt with Winona-themed prizes. Even Rocky Mountain Pro Wrestling will get in on the act,” said Chris Getzan. “Most of all, we want you to make this Summer Scream the Winona-est, and show up in your finest Winona Ryder costumes!”

“Is there any better way to celebrate the very best night of the summer than with a costume theme party?” asked Andrew Novick. “And which actress’ career makes for the very best theme to riff on for a costume, than the cooler-than-cool Winona Ryder? She’s that one movie icon who’s been the star we’ve been wishing on since the late 1980s— the one we wished could’ve been our girlfriend, or our gothy bestie, or even our way-out mom!”

Summer Scream is the only private, cultural event to take over Denver’s iconic Lakeside Amusement Park – all in support of Denver Film.

“First and foremost, we’re incredibly grateful to Lakeside for the opportunity to host this amazing end of summer celebration and fundraiser at one of the most iconic amusement parks in the country,” said Denver Film CEO Kevin Smith. “On top of that, we know that Chris (Getzan) and Andrew (Novick) are going to take that experience to an even higher level through their vision for an immersive experience that allows us all to be our best Winona.”

Inspired by this year’s Summer Scream theme, the Sie FilmCenter will be screening a selection of Winona Ryder’s best roles beginning Aug. 2 and leading up to the Aug. 22 Lakeside event. On tap for fans is EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, MERMAIDS, REALITY BITES, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA and the cult classic, HEATHERS. Tickets for these screenings go on sale at denverfilm.org, Friday, July 19.
